NEWDirwise 1.6 – now on Microsoft Store

Privacy Policy

Dirwise is a file manager that runs entirely on your computer. It does not collect, store or send any personal data.

In short

Data on your computer

Settings (favorites, recents, tags, tabs, appearance) are saved in a settings.json file in your user profile. Thumbnails (deleted after 30 days) and file icons are cached in your user profile. Nothing of this is sent anywhere.

Uninstalling the Microsoft Store version removes this data. For the version from GitHub you can delete it yourself: %APPDATA%\com.krystof2ops.finderwin, %LOCALAPPDATA%\dirwise and %LOCALAPPDATA%\com.krystof2ops.finderwin.

Network

Microsoft Store version

Dirwise itself makes no network requests. Updates are delivered by the Microsoft Store. The Microsoft Edge WebView2 component that Dirwise uses to draw its window is part of Windows and is updated by Microsoft under Microsoft's own privacy statement.

Version from GitHub (installer, winget)

At most once a day Dirwise checks for a new version with a single request to https://api.github.com/repos/arcly-studio/dirwise/releases/latest. The request contains no information about you or your files (GitHub sees your IP address, as with any web request). You can turn the check off in More → Check for Updates.

Other apps

When you choose Open, Open With…, Open in Terminal or open a folder in the Windows file manager, the file or folder is handed over to that app; what it does is governed by its own privacy policy.

This website

This website uses no cookies, trackers or analytics and loads nothing from other servers, except optional comments (see below). It is hosted on GitHub Pages, which, like any web server, processes your IP address to deliver the pages.

The one exception is the comments on the Ideas page: they load only after you click Load comments. Then the page loads the giscus widget from giscus.app and avatars from GitHub, and if you sign in to comment, giscus keeps a session token in your browser's local storage. Comments are stored in GitHub Discussions under GitHub's privacy statement. The list of ideas itself is generated when the site is built and loads nothing from other servers.
